CURATORIAL STATEMENT

Artist’s foreword by Pavel Braila: “I was born in Chișinău, in 1971, in the centre of the city. In my associative list of this city, Republican Stadium is a very important spot. I lived just around the corner and in my childhood I spent most of my time there. I was a three-time national freestyle wrestling champion, and the Republican Stadium is where I made my first steps in this sport. Now apparently the final destination of this beautiful monument of architecture, an important place for the athletes and for public gathering will be a new US Embassy. With this series of NFT works I continue to explore perspectives of geopolitical and attributive structures that define global power. Original sport ideals of Pierre de Coubertin — a French educator and founder of the International Olympic Committee — spoke about peace, promoted understanding among cultures, and advocated struggle over triumph. Coubertin’s idea of the representation of the intangible, moral beauty (sport) was transferred into a symbol that now reflects global power, class war, and corporate capital. My “meditations” on Olympic Symbols translate these concepts of forced manipulation and power into the physical, poetic and protest act.”
