MAE at Moco Museum

Marina Abramović, in partnership with TAEX, is pleased to announce the opening of its first museum showcase for Marina Abramović Element (MAE), a groundbreaking new digital art project. Located in the NFT room of Moco Museum London, the display will feature a curated selection of unique artworks from the first drop of the collection, ART, dedicated to the vivid symbology in Marina Abramović’s iconic performances and portraits.

Following the successful release of the first installment of the collection, with 70% of the artworks sold within the first 2 weeks, the market welcomed this major intervention by the godmother of performance art.

Marina Abramović, known for continuously testing the limits of her body, audience participation, and emotional presence, embarked on the journey to create the most accurate avatar of herself to date in order to extend her experiments to unprecedented levels. In the MAE Project, the very physical practice of Abramović blends with new technology resulting in a deeply intimate and vulnerable interaction with the digital audience. This pioneering project is an invitation to experience performance art on a new level, where the circumstances bend to the will of the artist and the audience becomes co-creators of the limitless archive of the future.

MAE was met with initial scepticism from both the art and web 3 communities, as no artist before Marina Abramović has initiated such a large-scale avatar project, involving complex narrative and high-fidelity graphics, which seemed almost an impossible undertaking. However, following successful showcases on the main stage of NFC Summit Lisbon and Taipei Dangdai art fair, the project earned a following and a group of devoted collectors.

Released on June 18, drop ART is dedicated to the evolution of Marina Abramović’s extensive practice, incorporating fundamental archetypes and symbolism from her archival portraits. These tokens feature animals and objects, such as snakes, scorpions, and sculls, that create the moments of tension in Abramović’s iconic works, engaging with the audience on a primal, elemental level.

The exhibition will run from July 25 till August 25, 2025.
